Discover a series of exciting routes through Tuscany’s geothermal landscape, in Dante’s “warm lands”, nestled among extraordinarily well-preserved medieval villages and vast nature reserves of inestimable value.

TRAVEL INFORMATION
TYPE OF TRIP: daily guided excursions in English, French and Italian;
DURATION: 8 days/7 nights;
EXCURSION FEATURES: six different daily itineraries which cut through through Tuscany’s “warm heart”, among geysers and fumaroles, skirting the coast as far as San Gimignano;
TERRAIN: 70% tarmac, 30% well-maintained dirt tracks;
LENGTH: daily stages varying from 47 to 120km;;
STOPS: during the excursions, you can stop to take photos, visit museums, historical buildings, churches and archaeological sites, taste the local products and fine wines and, should you need, to recharge the batteries on your E-bikes;
E-BIKE: if you do not own an e-bike or can’t bring it with you, when you make your booking, we can reserve you trekking E-bikes to suit your size, fitted with lights, panniers, rear pouch, repair kit and helmet to be worn during the trip;

By Train: Castelnuovo Val di Cecina is linked to Cecina station by bus, in alternative to the train to Saline di Volterra;
By car: leave S.S. 1 at the Cecina Nord exit and continue along S.S. 68, towards Volterra, as far as Saline di Volterra, and continue o S.S. 439 to Castelnuovo Val di Cecina;
By plane: Castelnuovo Val di Cecina is about 120km from Pisa’s Galilei airport. We advise you to head to Pisa railway station and then take a bus directly to Castelnuovo Val di Cecina. Alternatively, you can take a train to Cecina and then take the number 780 or 790 bus.

STAGES: THE JOURNEY DAY BY DAY
DAY 1 / SATURDAY
Guests make their own way at Hotel dei Conti in Castelnuovo Val di Cecina by 4pm.Meeting with the guide, presentation of the week and introduction to the use of E-bikes.
DAY 2 / SUNDAY: difficulty ** – Castelnuovo V.C.-Lanciaia-Monteguidi-Montecastelli-Castelnuovo V.C.
This route is immersed in nature, starting out with a visit to the Masso delle Fanciulle, a charming stretch of the river Cecina, which we will pass several times during the day, before climbing up to Rocca Sillana, set in a strategic position overlooking the Pavone stream valley.After Monteguidi, we will plunge into the forest area of Berignone-Tatti, cycling through woods which are home to wild boar, foxes, badgers and many birds of prey.
DAY 3 / MONDAY: difficulty ***- Castelnuovo Val di Cecina-Montegemoli-Montecatini V.C.-Volterra-Castelnuovo Val di Cecina
From the village of Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, we will head down into the lower Val di Cecina, via Montegemoli, famous for its bread, and then climb back up to Montecatini Val di Cecina, where we will visit the former copper mine and the museum which tells its story.Crossing “le Balze”, we will arrive in Volterra, where we will visit the historic centre, before cycling down a long dirt track along the Poggio Scornello, close to the river Cecina valley.
DAY 4 / TUESDAY: difficulty * – Castelnuovo Val di Cecina-Lustignano-Sasso Pisano-Castelnuovo Val di Cecina
We will alight the Val di Cecina to the geothermal power station of Valle Secolo in Larderello, before turning westward towards Serrazzano. After passing Lustignano, we will reach the Boracifero Lake, a basin which originated from the condensation of hot gases emitted from underground on the edge of Le Biancane nature reserve, which owes its name to the colour of the chalky soils that characterise the area, which is also scattered with fumaroles, geysers and volcanic vents.After an interesting tour of the park, we will move on to the nearby area of Sasso Pisano, with its many geothermal manifestations, and home to the ancient Etruscan thermal baths of Bagnone, now replaced by a thermal biolake, fed by hot springs.
DAY 5 / WEDNESDAY: rest day
Free day.Depending on your interests, we can suggest some interesting destinations which we can discover together, if you like.
DAY 6 / THURSDAY: difficulty **** – Castelnuovo Val di Cecina-Casole d’Elsa-S. Gimignano-Mazzolla-Castelnuovo Val di Cecina
A long day of cycling awaits us to reach San Gimignano, via Casole d’Elsa, passing the numerous terraced vineyards where the famous Vernaccia grape-variety is grown, cloaking the hills around the town made famous by its numerous towers.
A pleasant dirt track will lead us to the gates of Volterra, where we will then descend into the river Cecina valley and return to the hotel.
DAY 7 / FRIDAY: difficulty ***- Castelnuovo Val di Cecina-Libbiano-Micciano-Querceto-Castelnuovo Val di Cecina
The two long climbs to Libbiano and Micciano will really test the batteries on our E-bikes on a day spent mainly cycling along dirt tracks, like those that cross the interesting Monterufoli nature reserve.We will then visit the Querceto wine cellar, in the castle, surrounded by the small but pretty village, where will also taste some wine.
DAY 8 / SATURDAY:
The morning of the last day will be at the discretion of the participants, who can spend their time relaxing at the accommodation or going on a short ride, returning to the base by midday.Feedback about the weekly experience and contact sharing between participants, and farewell greetings before departure.
DIFFICULTY LEVELS:
* EASY: suitable for anyone who can ride a bike;
** MEDIUM DIFFICULTY: suitable for cyclists with some experience and capable of riding for some distance;
*** CHALLENGING: slopes and distance require a fair amount athletic preparation;
**** VERY CHALLENGING: distance and steep slopes, only for cyclists with suitable athletic preparation.
